My sister’s birthday was drawing near, and it was about two weeks before her special day when I received a life changing phone call. She was holding her birthday party at her new home in Toronto, Canada. Shocked, I immediately accepted her invitation and began excitedly packing for the week vacation I was doing to spend in Canada with my family for my sister’s birthday. I really had no idea what to expect, so I searched the web for some information about the city.

The car ride seemed like forever as we drove along the Appalachian Mountains and up through the New England states into Canada. I was expecting Toronto to be a beautiful, modern, clean, safe, and friendly city. I wasn’t let down.
Toronto is a city of approximately 6,000 sq. km, home to over 5 million Canadians, immigrants, and tourists. I made it pretty obvious that I was a tourist because I just had to take pictures of every building, park, statue, and landscape. I think the one thing the really surprised me was the abundance of eateries and restaurants. From delicious summer salads, to fast food, to upper class fine dining, Toronto had it all. These places were great because the service was extremely friendly and they really made you feel at home. Toronto also has a fantastic public transportation system.
What’s great about Toronto is that it’s a very diverse city, yet so many people still get along. Walking down just one block you run into so many people of different nationalities and they’re all so friendly. Toronto is home to many fascinating tourist attractions like the Art Gallery of Ontario and St. Lawrence Market. I love shopping and high fashion, so when my sister took me to Yorkville, a popular shopping place with stores like Prada and Chanel, they even had shops selling women’s urban clothing! I instantly fell in love. We also caught a boat ride that traveled across Lake Ontario to the Toronto Islands. The sights were breathtaking!
As I sat in one of the local cybercafés blogging, I thought about how I could definitely see myself moving to Toronto in the near future.
Hopefully next year my sister will allow us to visit Toronto once again. Maybe then I’d be able to bring my kids to the annual Toronto Street Festival!
