Not many kids have the opportunity to see a circus; especially one as famous as Cirque du Soleil. In case you don’t know, Cirque de Soleil is a Canada-based entertainment company that does shows in virtually every country of the world.
What was a regular family vacation turned out to be the chance of a lifetime. It just so happens that the circus was coming to town while my family and I were visiting relatives one year. Not just any circus, mind you, the famous Cirque du Soleil!

The Cirque du Soleil isn’t your typical circus. You won’t find clowns with monkeys riding around on unicycles. Well, you might, but Cirque du Soleil offers much more than that. Usually, the performances are themed. The one my family and I ended up seeing was Saltimbanco, a famous themed story that was performed for over fifteen years in many countries. The point of the performance was for people to realize that in order to be successful, we have to work together and respect our differences.
During the entire performances, my family and I remained at the edge of our seats. The audience was filled with “oohs” and “ahhs” the entire time. The show was absolutely incredible. You’ll find yourself trying to calm your adrenaline when the acrobats are flying in the air, synchronizing and performing crazy stunts. You’ll be amazed by the talent of the performers wearing the bright outfits and crazy costumes. The music, which is played live, helps keep you on the edge of your seat as well and I wish some of the songs were available as music for karaoke so we could sing along at home. When going to a performance, try to get a seat as close as possible. This way, you’ll feel like you’re part of the show. Saltimbanco’s cast of characters made you feel a part of the dreamlike world they lived in. Their imaginary city was struggling to deal with diversity and the hope they sought was displaced through the acrobats, the dancers, and the high intensity spectacle of actors. Cirque du Soleil truly redefines the meaning of ‘circus’.
I’m so thankful my family was able to get tickets to such a famous and well-respected performance. If you ever have the chance to see Cirque du Soleil, don’t pass it up. The Canada-based company surely won’t let you down in the categories of defying gravity, dancing, make-up, costumes, and theatrical performances.
