Everything old is new again. Maybe that’s why I can never bring myself to get rid of a good purse. After all, one day it will be back in style. I sometimes find myself shopping for vintage purses and am always pleased to see the old make a comeback. And there is definitely something to be said for clutches with brass accessories. With oversize bags big enough to carry the kitchen sink, these purses are all the rage again, and why shouldn’t they be? Purses have evolved with us through the ages, documented as far back as the ancient Egyptians.

Before you go shopping for a handbag, purse, clutch or wallet, start by a good raid of your closet.

VARIETY THE SPICE OF LIFE

Look, it’s far more than just being obsessed with collecting bags, it’s about having options available. It’s nice to have a decent selection of bags, purses and clutches to choose from depending on what you’ll be carrying with you that day. There’s no need for an oversize bag when all you have with you is your keys and wallet.

Knowing all the kinds of purses that are out there, how could you blame me for needing so many? Between clutches, satchels, duffels, totes, messenger bags, sling bags, purses, handbags, and pouches there is something for every need. This is more than mere indulgence. If I go out dancing, I don’t want to lug around much. A tiny shoulder bag or something smaller always does the trick.

BEING A GIRL

For many modern women, there is a certain level of cynicism around the amenities that come along with “being a girl”. More and more women do no desire fitting into the boundaries of what is considered feminine. But it is possible to shop for accessories without losing sight of what’s really important. Shopping for the accessories that tailor your needs and lifestyle can actually be fun, and bring out a side of you you may not have realized you had. And remember, your purses need to serve your functions, looking sexy and powerful are not mutually exclusive and never go out of fashion either.

The women I know are strong individuals, who don’t conform to what society expects of them. They are women who wear their personalities and use fashion items to bring out their own style. What women don’t realize, is that carrying on their day to day accoutrements is one of the areas of fashion, where they can be themselves. With a handbag you can have some fun. The larger bags we all seem to flock to these days allow for more pattern and embroidery. If your bag is very simple, you can always add that personal touch with some pins and costume jewelry.
