First Date, First Impression

First dates can be very frightening for some people. Not only do you feel overcome with fears and uncertainties, you may also be afraid to come off as a failure to your date. No matter what insecurities or anxieties you feel, there are ways to feel comfortable with the situation. In order to keep the date going smoothly and at the same time, getting to know your date better, you can ask your date these five important questions.

Some relationship experts believe the most important question to ask on a first date is ‘What kind of relationship are you looking for?’ If your date responds with an honest answer, you’ll be able to decide whether or not this person is the right for you. If the person avoids the question, they probably don’t know what they want in a relationship yet.

The next important question to ask your date is ‘What do you feel is the biggest mistake that a person makes in their relationship?’ By asking this question, you’ll be able to reveal what turns your date off about people. If you often make the mistake they bring up, let them know. You don’t want it to come up later if you decide to start a relationship together.

‘What are the characteristics of your perfect relationship?’ If you know what your date wants in a relationships, you’ll be able to compare your dreams and goals to see if your needs are compatible.

To figure out if your date is honest, try asking them if they’ve ever had their heart broken. An honest man will probably tell you he has, and he might include some details.

Try to make some of your questions not relationship related. You don’t want to seem probing. Ask your date what they enjoy doing for fun in their spare time. This way, you’ll be able to know if you share interest in the same recreational activities.  If you casually mention you easily come across Montreal Canadiens tickets and his eyes light up, you may have found yourself a hockey partner.

First dates don’t always have to be frightening. You can easily keep the date and conversation flowing smoothly by asking your date personal questions, or even allowing them to ask you questions. This way, you’ll be able to tell if this person is the real deal. Don’t expect to meet Prince Charming on the first date, chances are you’ll end up kissing a few frogs beforehand.
