Clubbing is a great way for women to socialize with friends, meet new people, and unwind from a mundane schedule. Although it seems that nothing could go wrong at a club, numerous women fall victim to unwanted situations like violence and assault. Before the next time you decide to go clubbing, be familiar with the following ways to protect yourself at a club while still having a good time.

club safety

- Avoid going clubbing alone. It’s better to bring a group of friends with you. This way, not only will you end up having more fun, you’ll feel safe having them around. If you plan on drinking, have a friend stay sober to keep an eye on those who are drinking. This friend can also be the designated driver.

- If you have a drink, don’t leave it unsupervised. It’s smart to know where it is at all times. If you have to leave, bring it with you or cover it with something. A popular date rape drug, Rohypnol (or Roofies), is often slipped it into victim’s drinks. Rohypnol is used popularly at college parties and clubs. It causes victims to blackout, leaving them helpless and blocking the recollection of a rape or assault.

- If you feel like you drank too much, inform someone you trust. Make sure they stay with you until you feel better. Do the same for someone else; if you are with someone who is intoxicated, do not leave them alone. Intoxication is a major cause for rape at clubs and parties. You can prevent this by drinking responsibly and helping your friends out.

- You don’t have to be best friends with the security at the club, but at least know where they are in case a situation arises where you need immediate help. A lot of negative activity goes overlooked and people often think they have no one to turn to, but security is there to help you.

- If you’re purpose for clubbing is just to have a good time, don’t let people think otherwise. If you dress provocatively, you’ll attract the wrong people. You can dress flashy, but dress comfortably.

- If a guy tries to pick you up, first check if he’s wearing an engagement ring.  Don’t go home with a stranger.  This is why it helps to have a buddy system when clubbing. Plan on going home as a group or with someone you trust.

The most important way to protect yourself is to avoid putting yourself in a hard situation to get out of. Avoid all of the previous incidents and you’re bound to have a fun, safe clubbing experience.

Clubbing is a fun activity that not only allows you to relieve stress, it helps you socialize and meet new people. However, it’s important to know that clubs aren’t completely safe. You must know how to protect yourself and others from assault, violence, and intoxication. This way, you can avoid negative situations and have a good time.
